It is taking every ounce of my willpower to not use today’s Song of the Day to rave about how much I love the new Justin Timberlake song, his first bit of new material in like six years. But, I want to wait for the inevitable music video that the song will have to completely maximize yesterday’s awesome news that JT is going to be releasing a new album this year. So, I’ll dig into a great tune off of one of last year’s best lyrical albums, Fiona Apple’s “Werewolf” off of The Idler Wheel… (and another 18 or so words that I don’t remember). It really is probably the most lyrically impressive rock record of the year but if you aren’t actively paying attention to the album (i.e., listening to it is all you can really do), you might not get what all of the fuss was with this particular album. But, if you really listen to the album, you will be bowled over by how devastatingly intimate and personal it is. It’s Fiona Apple so that’s par for the course, but like a great record by The Cure, this is the sort of album whose emotional power will stay with you for a long time after you’re done. Enjoy.
